Victor - I strongly support your advice for gout sufferers to arm themselves with the facts about gout and its recommended treatment. But I would extend that advice to any disease that we may suffer. Knowledge allows you to have a meaningful conversation with your doctor about your medical problem to assure yourself that he or she is recommending the best treatment for you, or to determine that you should find another doctor. I believe that if doctors frequently mismanage gout, they frequently mismanage other diseases too.
